What would it be like to go to work instead of school? Would you be happy about that?

During the late 1800s the Industrial Revolution spread throughout the United States  The use of steam-powered machines led to a massive increase in the number of factories.

 
From Country to Town

 


 

As the number of factories grew people from the countryside began to move into the towns looking for better paid work. People worked in factories because the  wages of a farm worker were too low to make a living. Many of these workers were young children.
