Foreign immigration and black migration resulted in a very diverse population and an increase in social tensions—the effects of human migrations on the nature and character of places and regions. The following areas will be examined with this activity:

1. Growth of organizations to fight discrimination

2. Growth of black art, music, and cultural identity; e.g., the Harlem  Renaissance

Analyze the conflict between federal and State law concerning the issue of school desegregation, using primary source documents.

• What method did minority groups use in their attempts to gain equal rights?

• Create a poster or examine photographs  indicating the significant people and events in the struggle for equal rights of a particular minority group.
